HOST
Laird Macintosh
Rules
Equipment
Each team of three will be supplied with the following equipment:
A Motorola RAZR cellphone. This is how host Laird Macintosh will communicate with the teams.
A laptop with special access to Ask.com and Orbitz.com. Teams will use the provided laptop to research for critical information along the way, and to check
available flights for overseas travels.
A Garmin GPSMAP 60C GPS unit for navigational purposes.
A Visa Credit Card. To be used only for flight ticket purchases, but who knows when it might come in handy.
Money
-A set amount of money in USD will be given to each team each leg.
-Teams may not beg to locals or other teams throughout the course of this hunt. If teams run out of money, they will be able to choose an option to RUN to
their next destination. However, this option can only be chosen if a team has insufficient cash to take the SLOWEST transport, and it will take TWICE the
number of updates of the slowest transport at that point in time.
- There are also various ways a team can earn extra cash throughout the hunt:
1. A team will receive 10 USD for coming in first on any given leg, 5 USD for coming in second, and 3 USD for coming in third. No additional money is awarded
for any position after third place.
2. A team will be given 5 USD if they procure a title quote for any given leg.
3. Depending on the quantity and quality of skits that teams post during a given leg, they may be awarded up to 10 USD for character development.
Booking of Airline Flights
Teams will need to travel to different countries throughout the course of the hunt. Here is how the flight bookings will work-
1. Teams will first have to use any available means of transport to get to the airport.
2. Teams will have to log on to Orbitz.com (i.e. you will post *Use laptop to access Orbitz.com and research for flights* or something like that)
3. The Orbitz website will list any available flights and their arrival times.
4. Teams must then run to the corresponding airline counters to book their flights using their Visa Credit Card. THIS IS ON A FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVE
BASIS, SO QUEUES ARE APPLICABLE.
Elimination and Non-Elimination Legs
In each leg, teams will be tasked to find one artifact crucial to discovering the final treasure. There are 7 artifacts in total that teams must collect in
order to discover the final treasure. The team to NOT discover an artifact in time in any given leg will be eliminated. However, there is one and only one
non-elimination leg, where the last team to discover an artifact will NOT be eliminated. However, there will be a penalty assessed in the form of a 10-minute
penalty at the start of the next leg.
Clues
Each leg has about 4-5 clues that teams must solve in order to discover the location of the artifact. Clues can be solved by:
1. Using Ask.com's unique search engine to figure out the answer to a clue.
2. Finishing a particular task in relation to that clue. Tasks can be in the form of writing tasks, flash games, or others. These tasks are similar to the
tasks used for Detours and Roadblocks in Sucks VTAR games.
3. Solving a logic puzzle. This might or might not involve external research.
4. The Artifact Clue- The last clue of each leg, solving this clue will allow teams to discover the location of an artifact. The team to not retrieve an
artifact at the end of each leg will be eliminated.
Genworth Financial Insurance Policy
Life has its challenges and so do the clues in this hunt. Genworth Financial's Insurance Policy allows each team to SKIP one entire clue, with a few
restrictions:
1. The Genworth Financial Insurance Policy cannot be used on Artifact Clues.
2. The Genworth Financial Insurance Policy will expire after Leg 5.
Each team receives one Insurance Policy at the start of the Hunt, which will expire after Leg 5. Use it or lose it- it's nice to know that it's there.
Genworth Financial hopes that this Insurance Policy will help you find the answers you need, not just for the game but for the future as well. Think of it as a
safety net. That's what Genworth Financial is for.
Additional Genworth Financial Insurance Policies may be acquired throughout the course of the Hunt.
Proxies
Proxies are allowed only for the first 4 legs (excluding the practice leg).
PMs
Teams may PM only ONCE per update. If multiple PMs are sent in an update, only the first PM will be counted.
